SENIOR TRAINING STARTS 21st November

Yes it is time to start training again! Coach Bishop will commence training for all grades on MONDAY 21st NOVEMBER at the Adventist School Erina startind at 6:00 pm. Training will continue on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS until the Christmas break.
Some players have already been training with many of our younger players in the gym building their body for the up-coming season.

The AGM for the TERRIGAL AVOCA PANTHERS will be held Sunday 23rd October at Breakers Country Club starting at 10:00 am.
It is our intention this year to get as many people involved so as to not make any one job a burden. We already have a few more volunteers but would enjoy the comfort and company of many more.
If you would like to play a part in the running and general welfare of our club please come and join us or let one of our existing committee know what role you would be prepared to help with.

Hylton Moore oval is unplayable so tomorrows games against Cardiff have been transferred to Bill Elliot Oval Cardiff.
According to Black Diamond By-Laws :- Steps - Our oval unplayable so they look for an alternative oval close to ours (none available) so... they ask the opposition if their ground is available. Cardiff has informed the Black Diamond that their ground is playable so we will be playing there.
Good to get a hard game under our belts before the finals..hey!

Here's a story for you.
The Coffee Guru at Erina Fair recently came on board as a sponsor so were entitled to a sponsored race at the Greyhounds. Brendan from coffee Guru turned up to the event and saw a dog named 'Hat Trick" in his sponsored race. He then informs me that at Coffee Guru whenever they get the same order of coffee three times in a row they yell out 'Hat Trick!' Last Saturday's Trivia night was fantastic. Very positive night thanks to our hard working Social Committee. We had our usual game day presentations, Jayson Van Dam was presented with his 2010 Best and Fairest Ring By Tony Causley,three bottles of expensive liquor were won and lost, free raffle tickets and Lynchy's team won the prize money. I understand the celebrations went on far into the night.
Special thanks to Cam Grentel for his hard work organising the majority of the night and to Bish for running the coin toss. Social Committee...Where would be without you?

Wet Weather - Training today

Here we go again. The wet weather plays havoc with our endeavours to train and organise our teams.
SENIORS - TRAINING IS ALWAYS ON! If the ground is closed we organise alternate training. Always bring joggers, a towel and $5. We meet at the oval.

JUNIORS - Gosford City council inspect all grounds between 1:oo pm and 2:00 pm. After 2:00 pm they have a bounceback facility. Text gcchylafl to 19922767 to find out if the ground is closed. We also inspect the ground at 4:30pm in case there has been additional rain after council inspection. The safety of our players and the maintainance of the ground are always number one.

If training is on today there will be a sasuage sizzle for all juniors and to welcome AUSKICKERS for their first session.

At this time, the Central Coast GSJ has not been able to produce a draw for this season. Hopefully soon and before the footy season starts in April.
Training:- At this stage we are still awaiting permission from Gosford City Council to use Hylton Moore Oval pre-season (March). Baseball is still using the oval and as I understand when they have finished we will have access for light training.

Let me introduce you to one of our current players. He is of course Bish. Club Coach, Current 1st grade player and friend.
Chris is the manager of the Maitland SUBWAY (so support him when you’re up there) where he employs a few of our youthful players.
As we all know Bishy is serious about his footy but enjoys it thoroughly.
You can find him most days at work, at the footy, at the beach or at the pub.

The night will involve a presentation from Chris Smith and Paul Roos to answer any queries about the Swans Academy, as well as important information about rules and bylaws for 2011. It is vital your coaches get along on this night.

Money on the Little Stud

With 3 or 4 hundred Studdert family members in the club it was always a safe bet that one of them was going to take out the TAAFC Pongathon for 2010. What was the surprise that it was the Little Stud (also known as a 'Nogging') who showed the way. Brad Studs paved his way though the opposition sidelining the highly fancied Peaky in the second semi then using his brutal fore arm stroke to defeat Byron in the grand Final. Well done Nogging! There's a few cheseseburgers for you with the winning prize. The Breakerdome was at capacity to see the deft display of Pinging and the night brought many highlights including Bishy's against all odds advancement to the Semi's, Webby's double K.O. before the semis and Buzzy 'Taiwanese Olympic Champion" serve. Lowlights - Tim Kozzi hamstring tear. Who tears a hamstring playing Ping Pong?

All in all another tremendous evening for the TAAFC with valuable funds raised. Huge thanks to Buzzy, Bill, Pubes, Cozzi and the Breakers Staff for their efforts in putting on a top night.

Dale Brown NSW State Champion

Here at the TAAFC, it's no secret we breed champions. Some move about society quietly hiding their heroism whilst others parade it on stage wearing high tensile bright silver spandex. Dale Brown is one such champion. The TAAFC family want to extend a massive congratulation to the man known as "redemption" for recently taking out the NSW state champion 'Air Guitar' Title.... That's right AIR GUITAR! Dale represented NSW at the national air guitar championships in Canberra a last week and narrowly missed out on a trip to Finland to represent the country. Dale has been playing air guitar for a number of years now and to see him perform it's clear he was born with this unbelievable talent. Well done Dale and we all eagerly await you improvised celebration next time you kick a goal!

Seniors Pushed but get the Points

It was a tight finish but the seniors got home with the win against Gosford on Saturday. The Tigers worked our boys hard all match yet the Panthers held on to a 5 point vicory winning 69 to 64. Having 8 rep players in the carnival the week before and the rest of the team having a two week lay of was telling however it's the points that matter and Terrigal were good enough to take them. B.O.G. honours went to James "Vuvuzela" Polglase and Stephen "Colobus" Lynch with Gongy chimin in for another 5 Majors.

The u18's notched up another fine win despite being down on numbers to keep their unbroken record and the ressies were gallant in defeat vs Singleton.

Congartulations Rep Players

TAAFC contributed 8 players to the BDAFL Rep squad (the most of any club) and all made the club proud on the weekend with a courageous effort in the annual carnival. Our boys featured heavily amongst the best players and goal kickers all weekend. The BDAFL side cruised into Sundays Grand final with 2 wins on the Saturday against the Farrer League and the more fancied Riverina league. @ out of three wins on the Saturday saw them play the Sunday Final against the Sydney under 23 side and although gallant the BDAFL side went down. Still a tremendous effort with the Terragal Avoca boys standing tall. Huge congratulations to Chris Bishop, Peter Van Dam, Cameron Grentell, Jayson Van Dam, Angus Darling, James Polglase, Sam O'Brien and Jai Turner for representing our club and the BDAFL with honours. Well Done Boys.

Ping Pong Night

The TAAFC Gala Day has been postponed with a new date to be announced in the coming weeks. Continual ground closures are to blame for the postponement so stay tuned. The committee will announce a new date and details soon.

BDAFL ROUND 9 CANCELLED

It is with great disappointment we pass on the news that this weekend's round of fixtures have been canned by the BDAFL. Heavy persistent rain means councils have kept most grounds closed (boo!) therefore all three grades of football will not take place this weekend.

The coaching staff have decided to give all players the weekend off however a compulsory team meeting will be held at Breakers Country Club at 2pm on Saturday (tomorrow). This is compulsory for all first and reserve grade players and won't take any longer than about half an hour. With the cancelling of this round, in which all sides had a chance to secure solid top four positions, we will take the opportunity to re assess our targets for the rest of the year. After that everyone's is invited to stick around at the club and watch some footy on the the big screens.

Panthers Running Hot

It was another outstanding round of football for the TAAFC last weekend when the Panthers took home for points in all three grades for the third week in a row. A lot can be said about good omens changing the tide of fortune and it would appear that the long overdue arrival of lights at Hylton Moore are providing more than just good training facilities. The entire playing group are attacking each game with a renewed enthusiasm and confidence that is exciting to watch develop. Most of that can be attributed to the really positive vibe that arrived the same night the lights first shone.

All three matches were thrilling encounters with the wining result coming in different ways. Our senior boys made a tremendous fist of things with a dominant display over Newcastle who served up a lesson when they last met. Their third quarter could have been the best of the year with every opposition attack being repelled with vigilance and class and usually finishing with a score to the Panthers. The boys jumped out of the blocks and extended the lead in the first three changes building unassailable scoreboard pressure. an 18.2 to 10.12 scoreboard reflected the dominance with accuracy in such wet conditions being a huge feature.

Reserves and 18's were also victorious over Newcastle with 2 and 3 point wins respectively. The 2's were challenged in the third term giving up a hard fought lead but battled valiantly in the last to come away with the win. It was the same for the 18's who struggled for three points until that never say die attitude saw them come home with a wet sail in the last.

This week the seniors Play Killarney Vale away while the Reserves and U18's take on Gosford away in a split fixture.

Hylton Moore has been closed due to the heavy weather conditions therefore training for the Senior Teams tonight will take place at Gosford Pools starting at 6pm. Bring swimming gear towels and a few bucks to get in.

We anticipate the grounds will still be closed come Thursday night also. If this is the case we will have a fitness session at Anytime Fitness. Meet at Hylton Moore at 6pm with Runners towel, money and Gym gear then we will have a seesion start at 6.30pm

Panthers In Winning Form

It was another triple for the Panthers last weekend as all three grades claimed convincing victories. First Grade took on an improving Wyong Lakes and despite a slow start powered on to take an 86 point win. In wet conditions it was great to see the Panthers kick such a commanding score with a standout performance by coach Bishop. He was well served by captains Pistol Pete and Groper. Young guns flinty and Rat chimed in with top games and Gongy continues to shine with a 7 goal haul. Our Ressies stunned everyone with the gutsiest performance in a long time taking down top four side Nelson Bay. They took the lead in the first minute and maintained it all day. It seems a corner may have been turned with our 2's. The Under 18's appear untouchable at the moment belting fellow top four team Nelson Bay by 132 points. It is interesting to note that the TAAFC haven't dropped a game since the installation of the new lights at Hylton Moore. Strange coincidence or major factor to a revitalised Panther outfit. Our monies is on the latter.

LIGHTS ON FOR PANTHERS

For those of us more spiritually inclined you'd be forgiven for thinking this image is of heavenly influence. Surely a helping hand from above aided the TAAFC, when after an epic, years long effort, brilliant, awe inspiring light flooded the hallowed turf of Hylton Moore last week. It was a painfully teasing 7 weeks as the the posts stood idle around the ground so close to completion - but after a final desperate push Gosford council finally relented and the switch we'd been agonisingly close to pushing was finally hit to the sound of thousands of ecstatic footballers cheering and some crying! No doubt the effect was instant with the club enjoying three wins on the weekend to celebrate. Finally the TAAFC can completely eliminate the poor training facilities hindrance to our progression and enjoy added fitness and skills execution in our game. Even the effervescent Juniors are looking more spritely with the chance to train that little bit later now they are no longer in the dark. Thanks should go to Gosford Council and the BDAFL for their aide in this massive achievement but more significantly huge thanks go to the many individuals who worked tirelessly to gain these lights. It started with a dream many years back and the ball got Rolling with former President and club stalwart Dean Wall. On Ya Wally. However more recently it was our current President Big Bill Collier who has relentlessly toiled to finish the job. Thanks so much Bill. Be sure to give him your personal thanks and thanks too to the committee's of recent years who were also paramount in dragging the Panthers out of the dark. A terrific step forward for the club in so many ways and I guess now it's time to..... Build a new CLUBHOUSE!

Panthers get the Triple

For the second time this year the TAAFC pulled off the hat trick of wins at home against Lake Macquarie. All three grades took out confidence boosting wins. Particularly pleasing was the strong finish from all grades. The Panthers are looking forward to doing it all over again this weekend at Hylton Moore.

The TAAFC's first fundraiser for the year was a resounding success. The annual trivia night pulled a huge 100+ crowd and by all accounts was a great night. Hosted by huge surprise football identity, Strauchnie (huge as in body mass!) teams battled it out to take out the coveted title of 'Most Massive Table of Nerds', which was handed to the Tribe with no arguments. Top job and well done to the Social Committee for putting on the night.

Heart Break Vs Killarney Vale

It was a painful loss on the weekend as our seniors went down by just two straight kicks in a match that was their for the taking. The boys led by 4 points going into the final term and it appeared momentum was with them but the scores on the board just didn't come. The senior side is enduring with out some of it's regular firepower in the senior side through injury or unavailability and it is telling. However the young side were gallant in defeat taking it right to the wire and were possibly unlucky not to get the points.

The reserves did it the hard way but eventually won the game with some promising signs on display while our Under 18's continue their undefeated start to the season winning a tight one, all versus Killarney Vale.

A big test for all three grades this weekend as we take on Warners Bay in an away fixture.

Congratulations to our Auskickers who on Saturday Night outshone the Swans and the Lions with their tremendous display on the SCG. TAAFC fielded 2 teams on the big field and in a tight tussle it can only be counted as a draw.A great time was had by all and a big thanks to our Auskick Coach Chris Ranzetta and all the parents who helped out or attended the match. We wonder how long it'll be till they playing at the SCG regularly?

Unfortunately 5 weeks of broken promises from council means that our lights are no closer to completion than they were a couple of weeks before the season started. With in excess of 200 hundred players and officials using the ground each training session and rapidly fading light it's starting to get to the difficult point of the year again not to mention a health hazard for players. Members should feel free to email our local member and find out what the delay is or perhaps encourage the completion of the lights so the club can move forward in all grades this year. It's the Under 18's at the TAAFC leading the way with a terrific undefeated start to the year after 3 rounds. Our first grade side has had mixed fortunes going down to both of last years grand finalists in successive weeks however all is not lost with a heavy injury list taking it's toll on Saturday against Cardiff. The Reserve grade too will be doing some soul searching after a disappointing hit out also against Cardiff. Both teams are now very much aware of what's required to be successful in 2010 and will be looking to bounce back against old rival Killarney Vale this weekend. In the meantime congratulations to the Under 18's who are displaying tremendous team work and silky skills so far this year.

The club couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2010 season with convincing wins in all 3 grades. The round 1 opener at Hylton Moore took on a great atmosphere as the large crowd watched some great footy. Our seniors blew out the pre season cobwebs with a 90 point win over Gosford. Congratulations to Gooly for booting his 900th goal and 6 for the day. 8 majors to Pete Van Dam with Jai Turner, Jimmy Polglase and Dave ‘Evergreen’ Grimmond all notched impressive games. Great wins to the ressies & 18s saw a start to a season we haven’t experienced for some time. Most pleasing was the attitude of the entire playing group. All in all it was a combined effort of 12 solid quarters of football. A much tougher challenge looms this week with seniors taking on Newcastle and Ressies and 18’s vs Singleton at Hylton Moore.

GONGY HITS 9 TONNE

900 down only 100 to go. Well, 95 actually! The most prolific goal scorer in Black Diamond history, Maurice Goolagong reached an astounding milestone on the weekend kicking his 900th league goal. Entering the match with 899 goals, Gongy reached the feat with his 3rd kick for the game throwing punters into turmoil as bookies had him at even money to do it with his first kick. Booting a very tidy 6 majors for the day Maurice only needs 95 more to reach the magical 1000 goal milestone and with his mind and body in great shape it'd be a brave human to back against it. Probably most pleasing about Gongy's feat is that the target hasn't dictated his style of play. Not only did Maurice contribute solidly to the scoreboard, his team focus saw him dish out and setup a few goals for other team mates and if not for a couple of unusual strays his daily tally could have been considerably bigger. From everyone at the club, a huge 'Gong-size' congratulations to you mate and we can't wait to see 10 tonnes from you later in the year.

With the season upon one thing is certain in 2010. There will be some injuries. All going well, none will much more than bumps and bruises however, although your player registration does contribute towards medical insurance provided by the league, it is very limited cover. The club to encourages players to take out there own individual health cover to safe guard against any major injuries that sometimes occur during the football season.

With every football match comes the mammoth task of getting everything organised so the more helpers we have the easier it is for everyone plus we guarantee lots of people will say nice things about you. There is a wide range of 'Volly Activities' you can take part in like canteen relief, boundary/goal umpiring, running water, time keeping, BBQ cooking and of course cheering. With so many choices there bound to be a job that suits your needs. Injured and unselected players, wives, husbands, girlfriend, boyfriends, mums, dads, brothers and sisters are encouraged to apply and no previous qualifications or experience are required. If you drink and play not only are you a tool who is letting down the club and your team mates you won’t get a game. All three grades will stand very firm to this decision. We won’t stop you from having a couple of quiet drinks before game day if you must but any player who takes it too far and is affected by alcohol the following day will not take the field. No ifs - No Buts! You’ve been warned so do the right thing.
